4 Tips for Writing an Effective Email Call to Action

Author | Inbox Pros

Having an effective call to action in your email marketing is a must if you want to get your readers to perform a task. Here are four tips to help you create a call to action that will prompt your readers to take action.

Tell People What to Do

First and foremost, you need to make sure your call to action tells people EXACTLY what you want them to do. A good call to action should be persuasive and compelling. It should also be more descriptive than “click here”.

Create Urgency

You want to create a sense of urgency by writing a call to action that urges people to respond immediately. Your call to action might end with the word “today” or “now”. So an effective call to action phrase such as “sign up today” or “shop now” would create urgency.

Have One Call to Action

Although you may have several actions you would love the reader to take, you will usually get better results if you limit yourself to just one call to action. Multiple call to action’s can result in reader confusion, and even inaction. Choose the one call to action that is most important to you and go with that one.

Make the Call to Action Stand Out

Email design can play an important role in the success of your email marketing efforts. Use design elements to make your call to action stand out, such as changing the text color, size, adding boxes or borders. If the reader were to only glance at your email, make sure the call to action would not go unnoticed.

We’ll leave you with a few call to action phrases you can use in your next email marketing campaign.
